The textbook consists of 24 chapters followed by an appendix
for idiomatic expressions and a Spanish-English glossary. It provides the
material necessary to establish a sound basic knowledge of the language. (See Table of Contents)
The abundant vocabulary of 700 words and idioms, tied together
with simple grammar illustrations and sentence construction, makes it easy for
teachers in classrooms and parents at home.
In the organization of this text, we have followed the principle
that a rich variety of activities is the key to keeping the attention of young
learners. The multiple approach we present here is consistent with research on
how to enrich the memory centers in the brain.
In a typical chapter you will find the presentation of the new
vocabulary followed by fun exercises to reinforce the vocabulary or expressions.
Each vocabulary unit is tied to an interrogative sentence which can elicit a
dialogue for students to work in pairs, always using real life experiences.
English translations are at the bottom of the page or immediately following the
word.
Short poems, humorous drawings, simple games and traditional songs serve
as mnemonic devices. Cultural vignettes about children from Hispanic cultures,
with the pertinent vocabulary, awaken children's curiosity and sense of
wonder at what is different from their customary world.
Working step by step, students will be able to understand
dialogues, whole paragraphs and short stories, and answer pertinent questions.
Following this general organization, pronunciation exercises
will be found in the first 8 chapters, which are accompanied by the CD.
